PITCH PERFECT - Wood is making its way into our living spaces one panel at a time

Using wood in our living spaces is not new, but it is finding a resurgence in our 21st- century homes.

Today wood panels are trending as innovative interior surfacing solutions to achieve modern kitchens and living spaces that are aesthetically functional. They are inexpensive and eco-friendly alternative to solid wood products. Patterned versions are great way to add texture and liven up a space.

Singaporean brand Neupanel, aims to make a difference in the design and build industry by raising awareness for wood as an interior building material.

The supplier of Melamine wood panels is a confident advocate for wood having almost half a century of wood making expertise by its parent company, Thiam Peng.

Each Melamine panel is made by pressing together thin layers of substrates as panel core which can be either plywood, particleboard or medium-density fibreboard (MDF) in various thickness of 6 mm, 15 mm and 18 mm. The finishing surface is printed with a decorative pattern or color. Neupanel offers four available ranges; Marble (stone-inspired), Monochromes (solid colours), Wood Grains (wood inspired) and Woven (fabric-inspired) to choose for customisation. The collection allows interior designers endless combinations to improve the decorative quality of building and structures.

“Our tagline ‘Experience Beyond Wood’ is our way of starting a design dialogue with our customers,” shares its Executive Director Annie Koh.

“Just like ideas are bountiful and unbounded, so are the expressions from wood. We strive to craft spaces with wood to create nurturing environments that heals – a refuge from the rigours of contemporary living.”

“Our mix of neutral and solid colours, popular wood grains and abstract woven patterns represent both classic and modern range to suit all applications.”

Cocooning bedrooms and living spaces with wood panels

A convenient alternative to laminates, the durable Melamine panels are perfect for everyday surfaces that see a lot of wear and tear such as table tops, furniture and storage solutions. Since each panel is integrated with a surface layer, it is ready to be applied in interior design solutions.

Neupanel paired up with firm Smart Décor to come up with contemporary design solutions for a residential unit.  The team at Smart Décor envisioned modern expressions for rooms from living, dining and bedroom by incorporating Melamine panels in the design scheme.

Designing a new home is a balance of form, function, touch of colour and most importantly, personal style. The team highlighted statement walls as effective ways to introduce textures into any space.

Also called accent or feature walls, they offer a quick and easy way to liven up the space, and depending on what material you choose, they can be very low cost. For instance, the wall where the sideboard sits, or even where the TV is, makes for a good feature wall. The wall behind the headboard in a bedroom is also ideal.

Feature walls can be high impact, but they do not have to be. Sometimes a subtle pattern can inject just the right amount of interest into a room without overwhelming the space.

Cabinetry is another way to incorporate textures into a room. When properly designed, built-in storage makes a space feel sophisticated, less chaotic and calming. Combining premium textures such as marble and textiles is easy and cost-effective using the Neupanel Woven and Marble range.
