30 Bencoolen

Located in an urban setting in the heart of the city that is densely populated with hotels and the like, 30 Bencoolen is a 13 storey hotel that was worn out and dated at the time before renovation. As with most A&A projects especially since it is completed in the 70’s, the challenge was to transform the building, within the limits of the authority requirements and the constraints of the original structure into a more purposeful and current design that is relevant in today’s times.

DP Architects Office

The new DPA office spans over 4000sqm of contiguous space in Marina Square, and brings together its two architectural studios previously located on opposite ends of the mall. It also connects DP’s full suite of eight consultancy arms with its core architectural business.

The space planning and interior design of the new office aimed to both embody and facilitate DP’s culture of collaborative design. This is articulated in the co-working spaces and meeting suites; all of which is set within an open office plan. The deliberate absence of walls and cubicles throughout the office is a simple but straightforward approach with a definitive impact. By physically reinforcing DP’s open and collaborative work culture, it psychologically breaks down silo mentality, encouraging dialogue between design teams and specialists. Leveraging on the flexibility in spatial configuration of the open office plan, the design team was also able to retain and reuse 50% of its existing furniture stock; thereby, minimising waste.
